As Parents, we are pre -occupied with working and looking for money and we believe by giving our children fees, gifts and driving them to school is the best from parents. Our children need our presence more than presents. Our children need our time and audience to understand their emotional and psychological needs. Secondary Students are in critical stage (adolescence) that need parental guidance and if neglected; they make wrong choices and decisions; they are misdirected by peer pressure.
Pertinent to note, our children are growing and this can’t be paused and reversed because we claim to be busy. It’s our moral responsibility to give listening to their voice and inculcate virtues to make them solid citizens.
Parents are supposed to know weak subjects of their children and endevour to talk to subject Teachers what precipitates that weakness and amicably come to consensus with your child and Teacher over Academic diagnosis. All this is done by parent visiting a school and talking to subject Teachers.
Parents should provide best learning environment at home; free from noise, sometimes provide textbooks to your child.
Parents must discern to cause pycho-social and emotional instabilities to learner. Family stability has an impact on learning performance of learner.
Our family misunderstandings affect learning attention of our children. We should know a girl child is vulnerable and as Parents must protect her to achieve her dreams at home and how she reports to school. Drive her to school or if you can’t, escort her. Or if engaged try to call Administration
about confirming her arrival at school.
Let us provide school requirements on time and prompt payment of fees to help our children concentrate.
Parents should seek early medical attention over any health problem of child.let school be informed about any health problem. Child with health 9problem is affected in her Academic performance.
As Parents; let us not critique our children about poor performance but identify their weaknesses and help them to improve. Parents who inspire their children make them to have self belief, self esteem and self confidence which resultantly improves their performance.
It’s cardinal duty of parents to inculcate in child about her/ his dream career so that a child knows why is in school. Research tells that learner who knows her/ her dream performs better, reads with zeal. Most African Students are in school without purpose and lack self-drive and direction.
Inferably, the first Teacher to a student is her parents and first School is her/ his home. School Teachers begin from parent’s formation. Thus, parents must partner with school to holistically unlock potentiality of learner to fullness.
