Yesterday 16th May 2023; Board Directors under auspices of Eng Badru Kiggundu as a Board Chairman of National Water and Sewerage Corporation( NWSC) acting in full compliance with section 16 of the NWSC Act renewed contract of Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha for another term 2023-2028. The social media was awash with news of re-appointment of Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha.
NWSC under stewardship of Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha has witnessed transformative leadership , strategic planning, innovations and institutional infrastructure development with latest technologies, well capicitated staff and extended water coverage to 18 millions customers, from 23 towns to 268 towns and projecting to cover 350 towns by 2028.
H.E Museveni while presiding over 50 years of customer service celebrations by NWSC at Kololo Independence grounds recently showcased his gratitude as he appreciated NWSC being a government entity and being able to make profits. This was enough empirical evidence that H.E Museveni appreciated management performance of NWSC.
Notably, the access to clean , safe and affordable water has relationship with production, alleviation of household poverty, development of education and industrial growth of a country . Research has ascertained that when the populace access clean and water ; they don’t suffer from water borne diseases and thus are healthy population ready to engage in production, medical bills are reduced and otherwise resources are diverted to production/ income generating activities and resultantly fighting household poverty. Access to clean water makes school going children not to walk long distances to fetch water and instead attend school lessons on time and regularly hence impacting on Country’s education/ literacy level. Lastly, most of industries use water and therefore access to clean and safe water promotes industrialisation of country and with its motley of economic benefits.
The re-appointment of Dr.Eng Silver Mugisha is a microcosm of H.E Museveni gravitating a leadership that promotes his social-economic transformation agenda for Uganda . Dr.Silver Mugisha’s leadership modus operandi and development ideological clarity is in consonance with NRM party ideology, mission and vision . This was even ably seen when NWSC staff was subjected to patriotism training under auspices of UPDF as they trained NWSC staff on mindset change, patriotism, Pan Africanism and utility management . H.E Museveni passed out this team as he presided over 50 years of service celebrations by NWSC at Kololo Ceremonial grounds recently. Admittedly, NWSC is a Development Force in realising social-economic transformation of Uganda which H.E Museveni gravitates as Yesterday.
