In an attempt to provide safe and clean water for all Ugandans , NWSC has held a signing ceremony to kickstart construction works for five water Projects in five districts intended to boost water supply. On 2nd August 2022; there was a signing ceremony in Kampala – NWSC Head offices to flag off five water Projects which included ; Bushenyi water supplying Augmentation Project, Kyankwanzi Water Supply Project, Kalungu Water Supply Project, Karuma- Gulu Water Transmission Project and Kagera Water Supply System Construction Project. The Signing ceremony was witnessed by NWSC Board Chairperson Eng.Dr Badru Kiggundu, Managing Director of NWSC Eng. Dr Silver Mugisha, Minister of State for Water and Environment Hon. Aisha Sekindi , Jean -Luc Sion Country Director of Sogea Satom who represented Contractors, Bushenyi District LC5 Chairman Jaffari Bassajabalaba, Kyankwanzi LC5 Chairman Dr.Mpuuga John, Gulu City Mayor Ogwang Alfred, Kalungu District LC5 Chairperson Ahmed Nyombi Mukiibi , all Isingiro District Members of Parliament ; Hon . Reuben Arinaitwe, Hon Alex Bakunda, Hon Nathan Byanyima, Hon Stephen Kangwangye and Hon Claire Mugumya .
Imperative to note, while speaking on the signing ceremony; Hon Aisha Sekindi- Minister of State for Water and Environment appreciated NWSC for its commitment to provide affordable and safe water to Ugandans and acknowledged that the signed projects will create a milestone in helping districts especially that fall under cattle corridor that witness death of animals in dry seasons due to lack of water. Hon Aisha Sekindi inferably called upon NWSC customers to pay bills on time so that NWSC is able to execute it’s Institutional plans without any hinderance.
The Managing Director of NWSC Eng Dr. Silver Mugisha submitted to the ceremony that projects being signed were designed by NWSC Engineers and it’s a strategic plan of NWSC to improve lives of Citizenry through provision of affordable clean and safe water. Dr.Silver Mugisha went further to echoe on institutional sustainability premised on business growth. Dr.Silver Mugisha said that by 2025 , they want to have increased assets from 3.9 trillions to 6 trillions, connections from 900,000 to 1.2 millions, staff satisfaction index from 78% to 90% inter alia . Dr. Silver Mugisha inferably said it’s always their strategic plan as an institution to promote environment conservation because water and environment are inter-twinned because a degraded environment can’t provide water sources which would render their service impossible to execute. Thus, environment conservation component is very central ingredient in their institutional planning.
In the same vein; Bushenyi District Chairperson Jaffari Bassajabalaba added his voice by appealing to Ugandans to conserve environment and equally called upon government to increase budget destined to conserve environment. All other leaders of beneficiary Districts submitted thanking NWSC and government of Uganda for it’s zeal to provide clean and safe water for her people .
Warugo water Project in Bushenyi is Shs 11.8 billion Project. It will be situated on Kibatama getting water from R.Warugo intended to boost water supply in Kakanju, Ruhumuro, Kyamuhunga and Bitooma subcounties. It’s projected that 150,6000. people will access clean and safe water. Warugo water Project is expected to supply 2.5 million litres in a day . The surplus water after covering the said subcounties will be piped to Ruharo water plant in Bushenyi – Ishaka municipality to cover a deficit water supply component. Muhick International Ltd is in Joint venture with Anhui Sijan Holding groups to do construction works .
